Call for Educational Equity Mini-Fellowships
Open Application Period: Rolling applications will be accepted during the 2025β2026 academic year until all 20 mini fellowships have been awarded.
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) in partnership with Academic Affairs is inviting Faculty and Graduate Student Instructors to apply for the CTL 2025β2026 Educational Equity Mini-Fellowship. This initiative seeks to involve UNM faculty and Graduate Student Instructors in professional development opportunities that focus upon evidence-based strategies for equity in higher education and facilitates an opportunity to implement strategies and receive rapid feedback on that implementation. Our goal is to support UNM faculty and programs in framing equity as central to their success as educators. Successful completion of the Mini-Fellowship includes a stipend of $500. Submit your proposal. Upon approval, faculty and GA instructors will be contacted to arrange details and deliverables.
Instructors will be asked to:
- Attend at least two equity-focused workshops offered through CTL and/or different UNM campus units.
- Participate in CTL Mid-Semester Student Feedback or participate in a formative Peer Observation of Teaching session in order to receive feedback on implementation. Scheduling for both of these services should be arranged directly with CTL.
- Provide a final reflection statement and feedback of this equity-focused opportunity for professional development.
If you have questions about the requirements and submission process, please do not hesitate to contact CTL Teaching Support: teachingsupport@ctl.edu.

Evidence-Based Practices for Teaching Online
Join us on August 25th for Evidence-Based Practices for Teaching Online (EBPTO), an online 6-week professional development course designed specifically for faculty. Offered multiple times a year, the course is encouraged for instructors teaching online, particularly those developing Accelerated Online Program courses. The time requirements are about 2β3 hours a week (12β18 total), and the course has two deliverables: a course map (a required document for many of our quality reviews) and an online teaching portfolio (comprised of elements completed during EBPTO). As of Summer 2021, instructors are required to complete either EBPTO or RASI training to teach online.
NMSU Teaching Academy Upcoming Webinars
Teaching the ChatGPT Generation
Participants will learn to design assessments that embrace the use of AI, teaching students how to use it responsibly as a tool in their learning journey. AI-inclusive assignments aim to integrate AI tools in a way that promotes deeper learning and creativity rather than simply enabling AI to do students' work for them.
Designing Assignments AI Can't Solve
Join us to discuss AI-resistant assignments. These assignments are carefully crafted to significantly reduce, and in some cases entirely prevent, students from using AI tools to earn high grades without genuine effort. By minimizing the potential for AI to complete tasks on behalf of students, these approaches ensure that academic integrity is upheld.
Law, Ethics, and Generative AI
We'll examine key legal issues, classroom challenges, and ethical tensions surrounding the use of generative AI, providing practical insight for educators and institutions. Participants will leave with tools to navigate AI use with transparency, fairness, and academic integrity in mindβboth inside and outside their courses.
AI & Integrity in Teaching
Explore practical and ethical ways to integrate generative AI into instruction, including how (and maybe even whether!) to do so. This session covers responsible use, risks to academic integrity, and strategies to support student learning while maintaining trust and transparency in virtual classrooms.
