Digital Accessibility Standards

In April 2024, the Department of Justice issued a final ruling updating ADA Title II to ensure that web and mobile content is accessible to persons with disabilities. The compliance deadlines vary by the population size surrounding an entity (such as UNM).

The regulation gives guidelines for using the WCAG 2.1 web standard to be in compliance with the ruling. The following pages will highlight the most noted updates that instructors, staff, and students will need to make in order to bring their digital content into compliance with the WCAG 2.1 web standard.

Register for our Course: Charting a Path to Accessible Digital Content

Charting a Path to Accessible Digital Content is a three-week, self-paced course with an optional synchronous Zoom session which will be recorded and posted in the course. Synchronous meetings happen the second Monday of each course session at 11am MT. The date will be clearly noted in the course.

This course was conceived as a support for people creating digital instructional materials in light of the new ADA Title II guidelines on digital accessibility. Our course can be approached in several ways - you can do a Deep Dive into a certain topic, or you can pursue a Broad Impact by tackling several topics. You can also just jump into a topic and Get Started Now on fixing a specific document. You will retain access to the materials and resources in the course indefinitely and can revisit the course as needed.
