Preparing for Graduate School
The decision to pursue an advanced degree is fraught with concerns, including your motivation for the degree, how you will use it once you’ve obtained it, and how you will fund your education. Graduate Support understands these challenges. We provide information and consultations for prospective students to get guidance, advice, and motivation they need to pursue their degrees in a Master's, Ph.D., or professional program. We support prospective students at all stages, including: researching programs, requesting faculty recommendation letters, writing a personal statement, and taking entry exams.
Whether you’re finishing a Bachelor’s degree or have been out of school for a while, our graduate consultants offer support with:
- Identifying your research or professional interests
- Researching potential programs
- Building a timeline for preparing and submitting applications
- Writing application components, including writing samples and personal statements
- Locating funding for your graduate education
- Preparing right now or for the future
One-on-One Consultation
Sometimes the best way to get the information you need is to talk with a consultant one-on-one. Scheduling a half or one-hour appointment is the easiest way to do this. Schedule appointments by calling, emailing, or visiting in person at the Graduate Commons in the basement of Zimmerman Library.
Workshops
Planning for Graduate School workshops are opportunities for undergraduates to talk with multiple graduate and professional students at one time. There are plenty of opportunities through-out the year to engage in thoughtful dialogue to voice your many questions and concerns. Workshops are hosted by centers such as El Centro and AISS on campus and are open to all students. If you would like to schedule a workshop for a class or student organization please contact us via email.
