Abdelbaset Haridy (aka Baset) is a PhD candidate at the department of Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies. Baset received a BA in Education followed by an MS in Information Technology (with a focus on E-Learning Technologies) and another MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Cairo University. After he came to the U.S, Baset received a third MA in Education and another MA in Translation and Psycholinguistics using Eye Tracking technologies while writing his PhD thesis.

Baset won a number of national and international academic awards including the 2011 Fulbright FLTA award, the 2013 and 2014 Carl P. and Erma W. Dunifon award, the 2014/2015 Tony Hillerman fellowship, the 2015/2016 UNM Outstanding TA of the year, the 2016/2017/2018 William B. and Roberta V. Castetter Fellowship, and the 2019 LLSS Research Excellence Award.

Baset has more than 13 years of experience in teacher training programs, both in Egypt and in the US. He trained faculty, staff members, and graduate students on various topics related to teaching and learning, including, but not limited to teaching methods, testing and assessment, using technology in the classroom, foreign language teaching, etc. He also has a number of publications in these areas.

Baset enjoys teaching, reading, programming and playing chess, but his utmost pleasure is in spending time with his family (a wife and three kids).
